The Gathering Place (formerly the Thunder Bay Christian Community Centre, or TBCCC) is a non-profit organization incorporated in 1985.  Members of Hope, Bethlehem, and First Christian Reformed Churches of Thunder Bay had a vision to help those in need in the city of Thunder Bay, and therefore purchased a duplex on Dease Street to provide ministry and assistance to the people in that neighbourhood and surrounding area.  Our work was initially focused on our neighbourhood children (between ages 4-12), offering various programs such as kids’ clubs, Vacation Bible School, and literacy training for those who were learning English as a second language.

Since the conception of this ministry, The Gathering Place has developed and grown immensely.  In the fall of 2014, The Gathering Place moved to a larger facility located on Amelia Street West.  We continue to offer a weekly Food Hamper distribution program, Free clothing depot, and weekly Men’s and Women’s bible studies, a drop in Coffee-time and in the near future, a Collective Kitchen cooking opportunity.

The Gathering Place is governed by a Board of Directors, comprised of 9 volunteer representatives selected from the three Christian Reformed churches of Thunder Bay.  The Board establishes policies and plans, recruits staff and oversees the fulfillment of our objectives and goals.  We are thankful for the funding and support we receive from the Christian Reformed Denomination, as well as other Thunder Bay churches, organizations, and individual donors.  Together, we are working to facilitate healthy community development in our neighbourhood and in the wider city of Thunder Bay.
